I was fed some of these in "middle childhood"; in retrospect I think I liked the "culturally identifying details" -- the sweets! the humbugs! see http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2012/apr/18/famous-five-food-diet -- as validating/fleshing out a fantasy world. Not sure that they had any lasting impact though...
